Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who are people behind Greenbelt Solar?
A: - Greenbelt Solar is founded by Carey and Adi Ibrahimbegovic. It is a woman-owned renewable and solar energy installation company based in Austin, Texas. For more info you can click to go to About Us section of the website.
Q: When was the company started?
A: Greenbelt Solar was founded in June 2009.
Q: How much is my solar energy system going to cost me?
A: No clearer answer, than - it depends. It entirely depends on the size of the installation and many other factors. No solar install costs the same, it depends on the size of the system, on your roof, how much money would you like to shave off your electric bill and more. Hence we have custom, most affordable and competitive prices for anyone getting solar installed.
Your free solar consultation with sales team will answer all of your questions.
Q: How long is it going to take?
A: The installation itself? That doesn't take too long. Depending on the size of the install typically - 3 to 5 days, give or take a day. The whole process from initial contact to finished and inspected job - about 3 to 4 weeks.
Q: How will it look like on my roof?
A: In our custom proposal to you, we will have a mockup installation done via computer simulation and graphics to show how approx. it will look like. We will have a computer aided design and a mockup of your house as well as a photo mockup done in Photoshop software.
Q: How will it look like in my backyard?
A: See above.
Q: How is solar installation an investment and not an expense?
A: Because by NOT paying for electricity to your utility (or at the very least not paying as much as you are now), money saved will add up and eventualy, over time those savings will add up and the whole system will be free. Currently,. tt takes between 6 to 10 years depending on many factors for the system to completely pay off for itself. After the system has saved as much money as it took to invest in it, it will still continue to generate electricity and pay for itself for at least 15 years to come. Then, you will be making money on it instead of paying for it.
Q: How much money will I exactly be saving by installing solar?
A: One of themost important questions. That question can be answered in your solar proposal or even a ballpark figure can be given with your free solar consultation. That and any other questions can be discussed in detail before we sign the contract for the installation. Hard to say exactly how much out of thin air without crunching the numbers.
Q: In what timeframe will my solar installation pay for itself?
A: Typically, it takes between 6 to 10 years for the installation to pay for itself. Might be a bit less, might be a bit more, every installation is different.
Q: How much money will federal government give back in form of tax deduction?
A: A whole 30% of the total installation cost, after the rebates if your utility offers any. That law which passed in 2009 is in effect until 2015.
Q: How much money will utility provider give back as a rebate check?
A: It depends on the utility provider and the rebate rates they have set. For example, currently Austin Energy gives $2.50 back per Watt. If the size of the system is 3 KiloWatts (3000 Watts) then 3000 x 2.5 = $7500$. If the size of the system is 4 KW, then 4000 x 2.5 = $10.000 and so on. All up to amount of $15000. That means, even if the size of the system is 9 KW, which is 9000W. Then, theoretically, 9000 x 2.5 = $22,500. but, since the cap is $15000, that is the maximum they will give back regardless of the system size.
Q: What is the process of getting a rebate check?
A: The proces has been explained in detail on our rebates page.
Q: Do I need to change anything with my electrical installation?
A: You don't need to do anything at all. Our installations are completely done for you, turnkey.
Q: Does Greenbelt Solar provide a warranty?
A: Yes. Full 5 years warranty. Manufacturers offer even more, so you are covered for a very long time.
Q: How can I track or see how much electric energy I save when solar array is installed?
A: By installing a solar monitoring system. Solar usage and production can then be tracked, measured and seen on your desktop computer, wirelessly over the web or on your mobile phone. We can provide more detail prior, during and after the installation. Here is a mockup picture of how it might look like.
Q: What are the financing options available to me if I can't (or don't want to) pay it all upfront?
A: Your free solar consultation with our sales team will answer all financial questions.
Q: What if there is shade from trees on my roof, can I still have solar installed?
A: Yes. No. Kind of. Shading is somewhat of an issue and an obstacle. Solar panels work best in durect sunlight and if there is tree shading involved, their performance diminishes.
Well, "SOME" shading can be worked with, but this is on a case to case basis. We will have to do a thorough shading analysis to give a comprehensive answer, if installing solar makes sense or not. Sometimes it is okay, sometimes it does not make sense to go with it. If you want to know more about how shading affects solar installations, please read "Solar shading" article here.
Q: Does my solar installation HAVE TO be facing south?
A: No, it does not absolutely HAVE TO, but it's a whole lot better for you and your wallet if it does. It yields more free electric energy when facing south. Solar installs could be done by facing east or west, but facing north is not an option at all. Austin Energy does not even give rebates back for any systems facing north. Not a wise choice for solar to have your panels facing north. South, South-West, South-East or West are the choices. During our solar consultation visit we can explain all this to you.
Q: What kinds of payments do you accept?
A: Any type of bank transfer, money order, personal check, Cashier's check, Cash, Wire Transfer... Whatever way is easiest and most convenient for you.
Q: Can I order parts from you?
A: Yes, you will be able to in the near future. We are working on building our state of the art online retail store. If you need a part immediately, you can email us or call the number on top of the page and we will try to help you with the best possible price found on the web.
Q: My wife really likes to decorate and redecorate our house and yard both inside and out. We would really consider solar energy for our home if you could build us a custom solar array installation that we were thinking about. Any ideas?
A: Yes. We would love to work with you customizing an install to fit your taste and your home, something we both can be proud of and it will look beautiful.
Q: I have a highly technical question for about my solar installation done by an XYZ company here in ABC town. Could you help me out, please?
A: Yes, of course, within reason. We'll try to help pretty much anyone and we have been for years, even if you didn't have the system designed and installed by Greenbelt Solar, again, within reason.
Q: I live in Ohio. Can you ship solar panels, inverters and other solar installation equipment directly to me? I have the know-how (electrician by trade), I am willing to go DYI route and do the work myself. I have found you have the best prices on the internet. Could I order everything I need from you?
A: Sure. Let us know what you need and how many and we'll take care of it..
Q: Do solar panels break often?
A: After they have been properly installed - no, they don't. Greenbelt Solar offers 10 year warranty on every system we install, inverter manufacturers usually give 15 years or more warranty on their equipment and solar panel manufacturers offer 20 to 25 years warranty for their equipment. Once the solar array goes up there, it is built solid and built to last and give away energy for a very long time. In case something does go wrong, Greenbelt Solar will take care of it promptly and efficiently for the life of the system.
Q: After I install a solar system on my roof, will my homeowners insurance cover it or not?
A: Yes, they will. Once the solar array goes up, it is attached to the structure or the dwelling and considered a part of the house now, same with any other "remodelling", it should automatically be covered.
Q: How much maintenance do solar panels require?
A: No maintenance is required. They go up, they stay there and work for you. For at least 25 years.
Q: What is your policy on returns?
A: Everything bought from us in our online store can be returned, if it is unoopened, in its original or "like new" condition for a 100% refund issued after we receive the merchandise. If the item has been opened or used, full price less 15% restocking fee. If the item arrived broken, free exchange of the same item or 100% refund.
